When I was little I loved sweets. Who am I kidding - I still love sweets! And the one thing that satisfied my sweet tooth then and now are Nanny's Spiced Pecans.

My granny would make them during the holidays - along with her toffee but that's for another post - and then my mom was passed the recipe. Now, it's my turn. I'll admit, I made spiced pecans tons of times with my mom, but that really was just me getting in her way. This time I'm doing it solo.

Here's the game plan:
1 cup of sugar 1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon water
2 1/2 cups of pecan halves
wax paper
cup of ice water
I cook this small batch multiple times. It's easier to handle the smaller batch of pecans if working alone.
Over medium heat, bring evaporated milk, sugar, and cinnamon to a slow boil stirring constantly until sugar dissolves.
Cook to "soft ball stage" - put one drop of mixture in cold water, it should form a small ball that you can pick out. If the ball retains its shape, your mixture is good to go! Remove from heat, add vanilla and tablespoon of water. Stir in pecans until thoroughly coated then spread out over wax paper.
Allow pecans to dry completely, break apart and enjoy!
