When I shop I have this unspoken price limit. It keeps me in line and on budget. That limit varies, of course, depending on what it is I’m buying, but here are the basic rules: Dresses: <$25 Tops: <$15 Bottoms: <$15 House Decor: <$15 This doesn’t work if you insist on shopping exclusively at boutiques or mall department stores. However, if you enjoy the Ross, Marshall’s, T.J.Maxx or Goodwill stores, then these rules can easily apply to your shopping list, and your closet, home, and wallet will thank you. Let’s talk less about clothes right now and more about decor — it is Christmas time after all. My holiday decorations are all unique, simple additions to my home that are far from pricey.
These glass-domed stands are my latest edition. I picked them up for $13 each and immediately felt the need to bake cookies. Simple. Clean. Stylish.
Adding $6 flowers to a tin utensil holder (which I use to hold a collection of remotes on my coffee table) is a cheap way to give my living room a little holiday spirit and tie it in with the rest of my home.
My assortment of trees are what I’d call “expensive” at $14 a piece. I bought several, all different sizes and colors, but remember you’ll use these every single Christmas - so that $45 bucks goes a long way!
Ornaments are my favorite because they are all so different. Some are from Tuesday Morning on super sale after Christmas, others I picked up throughout the year from a clearance aisle.
The plain, “filler” ornaments are from the dollar store. Yep, the good ole dollar store! The trick is to fill your tree deep with the cheaper bulbs, then showcase your best ornaments on outside.
Also, because the theme throughout my home is somewhat “seaside,” left over starfish and shells from my wedding decorations are easy additions to my tree.
My favorite pieces were free — they only cost a little time.
I knocked out this Christmas tree painting in about an hour and a half one night when I couldn’t sleep. It’s the perfect size for the landing of my stairs — which is also home to these...
My dad is a very talented craftsman. Since before I was born he would venture out to cut down cypress knees and carve these incredible Santa Claus characters.
Each one is individual. Some are hiding gifts behind them, some are tall, a few are bald, one of them is even on a cellphone. Homemade art does so much more than just decorate your home, it fills your heart.
Hoping yours is as full as mine this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
